This policy explains what cookies are, which cookies we use on this website, why we use them, and how you can control them. We use cookies minimally — only for essential functionality, anonymised analytics, and remembering your preferences. We never use advertising cookies.

01 · Overview

A note on cookies

This Cookie Policy is part of our broader commitment to data minimisation. We collect only what is necessary, for as short a time as possible, and only for purposes that genuinely improve this website.

Last updated: July 2026

This Cookie Policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data more broadly. Where this Cookie Policy refers to "we", "us", or "our", it means Meer Foundation, registered in Dhamtari, Chhattisgarh (Reg. No. 3588, 23 December 2011).

Minimal use

Only five cookie categories, all essential or preference-driven. No tracking, no advertising, no profiling.

Anonymised analytics

Google Analytics is configured with IP anonymisation. We see aggregate trends, never individual users.

Your control

You can disable cookies at any time through your browser settings. Essential cookies keep working; the rest are opt-in.

02 · What cookies are

A short primer

If you have ever wondered what a cookie actually is — and why every website seems to ask about them — this section is for you.

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. When you revisit the website, your browser sends the cookie back. This lets the website “remember” things — for example, that you have logged in, or that you prefer dark mode.

Cookies are not programs. They cannot run code, install software, or access other files on your device. They contain only the information the website itself placed in them — typically a short identifier and a few preference flags.

There are three broad categories:

  • Essential — required for the website to function. Without them, login, forms, and security features break.
  • Preference — remember your choices (theme, language, consent) so you don't have to set them again.
  • Analytics — measure traffic and usage patterns in aggregate so we can improve the site.
What we do NOT use. We do not use advertising cookies, social-media tracking pixels, retargeting cookies, or cross-site tracking cookies. Our commitment is to a calm, privacy-respecting web experience.

04 · Managing preferences

How to control cookies

You are in control. Every modern browser lets you accept, reject, or selectively allow cookies. The instructions below cover the most common browsers.

In your browser

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data.
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Cookies and website data.
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions.
  • Brave: Settings → Shields → Cookies.

For analytics

If you prefer to opt out of Google Analytics across all websites that use it, Google provides a browser add-on:

Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on

For Indian users, the Web Analytics Opt-out is also honoured by our Google Analytics configuration — your visit will not be recorded.

What happens if I disable all cookies?

The public-facing website — homepage, programme pages, blog, contact form — will continue to work fully. Only logged-in functionality (EduSuTo course progress, Prayaas Online) requires essential cookies. Without the preference cookie, your theme choice will not persist across visits. Without the analytics cookie, we will simply not see your visit in our aggregate traffic reports.

05 · Third-party cookies

Cookies set by others

A small number of cookies on this website are set by third-party services we have intentionally embedded. Each is described below, with its purpose and the controller responsible for it.

Google Analytics
Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, which pages are read, how visitors find us, and what devices they use. IP addresses are anonymised before processing. Google's privacy policy applies to data they collect; our configuration prevents cross-site tracking.

next-themes
Preference

We use the open-source next-themes library to remember whether you prefer light or dark mode. The cookie stores only the string “light” or “dark” — no personal data. It is set by our own domain and is never transmitted to a third party.

Payment gateway cookies

When you make a donation, you are briefly redirected to our payment gateway's PCI-DSS-compliant page. That page may set its own session cookies to complete the transaction securely. Those cookies are governed by the payment gateway's own cookie policy, which is presented to you on the gateway page. We do not control or have access to those cookies.

Frequently asked questions

No. We do not run any advertising on this website and do not use any advertising-cookie networks (Google Ads, Meta Pixel, etc.). We never have, and we never will.
